“It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed”

Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill is considered to have influenced more people in success and self-empowerment than any other person in history. A lot of modern day gurus have based the core of their programs on the teachings from Napoleon Hill.

Napoleon Hill was a journalist who was hired by one of the wealthiest business tycoon’s of the time: Dale Carnegie. Hill was tasked to put together the first real book on success and self-empowerment. The “Philosophy of Personal Achievement”, became an outline of the best success and self-empowerment ideas and practices ever. Hill is most famous for the book, “Think and Grow Rich”, which is where most of his quotes comes from today, including the one mentioned above.

Think And Grow Rich

One of the things I teach my author community, is that if you want to write a book, interviewing experts on the topic is a great way to generate content. Hill was one of the first to implement this principle. Carnegie gave Napoleon Hill a list of 500 of the most successful people to find and interview before collecting his thoughts in a book. Some great souls who have experienced wealth, success and happiness.

Think and Grow Rich was the result of interviewing some of the best minds in the world at that time such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, George Eastman, Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller, Charles M. Schwab, F.W. Woolworth, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and many others.

W. Clement Stone, originally a successful Insurance magnate (Combined Insurance) is another person who was influenced by Napoleon Hill’s philosophy and started having all of his insurance sales people trained by Hill. My dear friend and mentor Jack Canfield worked with Stone, and to this day mentions a lot of his learnings from these early days.

Earl Nightingale read a copy of “Think and Grow Rich” and instantly turned his weekly radio talk show into a radical success based on Napoleon Hill’s self-empowering ideas. Together you might call this group the “original” gurus of positive thinking: Hill, Carnegie, Stone, and Nightingale. They pioneered the way of self empowerment for the next generation of motivational guru’s, authors and sales people that came along. Among some of the most successful ones were Zig Ziglar, Toni Robins, Brian Tracy, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Jack Canfield, and Maxwell Maltz just to name a few. My books and online learning programs for entrepreneurs today are based on these same ideas, which I in turn learned from several of these impactful teachers in my life.

Building and Growing A Business

“You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Zig Ziglar

So business success is easy, right? All you need is enough people to talk to. Reality turns out to be less straight-forward, as I shared in this post about building a business. People are inundated with information, and we need to up the ante to stand out from the crowd. After years of building businesses and helping entrepreneurs build their personal brand we have found this too often to be the missing link: the picture we paint of ourselves is too vague to stand out.

But in painting a clearer picture of yourself and your brand, the goal is to be of service and helping others in a natural, authentic way. People have a radar for authenticity, and as long as you are real about being yourself others will be naturally drawn to your desire to help them.

In its most basic form, this describes most company’s remuneration systems. Salesmen get their commission after selling products to customers. I pay our partners after they refer us new program participants. Employees collect their pay after they have provided a service to their employers. However, there is something that goes deeper than just the money we receive. Money in itself is never the goal, but always an indirect by-product of everything else you’re doing.

The Power Of Intention

But I think our positive thinking gurus had something even more profound in mind. I believe their foundation was much more altruistic than that. Regardless of your personal beliefs, imagine our actions are seen by the unseen in our world. Whether you call it “karma”, “God”, “the universe”, eventually we get our compensation, including but not limited to the monetary form.

The whole universe conspires to help you no matter what you do. If you’re not getting the results you want, you conspired with the universe to get that result. In Wayne Dyers’ book, “The Power of Intention”, he describes this principle. He explains the spirit in the universe is part of us as we are a part of everything else. Dr. Dyer’s point is that our spirit within us knows what’s wrong and what’s right. Our spirit is part of the universe and so the universe works with our spirit to accomplish the intention we set out to do.

Money Management and Giving Back

Your intentions, good and bad, eventually catch up to you. I have experienced it myself over and over again. Sometimes it is right after I help someone; sometimes its months later when you didn’t even expect it anymore. This is called the power of Giving Back, one of the principles I teach as part of our money management system in my Millionaire Mindset online course.

Many people are looking for financial freedom, but don’t truly understand money and how financial systems work. Most people have a love / hate relationship with money. It’s time to change that. It’s time to take control of your financial life. Free up your time and resources to do those things you love most.

Get unstuck from your day-to-day reality by adding additional options to your life. I don’t recommend anyone quitting their job to “follow the dream”. Instead, create unlimited abundance by adding something new and implementing money success principles of the rich and wealthy.
