I’ll be honest with you. I never really believed in social media. Of course I had a profile on all the popular networks, sharing my stories, travel pictures and the things I was working on – but that was pretty much it. Until one day the phone rang…
It was GMC calling – they were about to release a new model of one of their trucks. I told them I wasn’t in the market for a new car at that time. Their response? “No, we want to give you one – for the weekend. Drive it into the mountains, we’ll set you up with a hotel and a white water rafting excursion the next day.”
Awesome. What’s the catch? Was I dealing with some highly creative criminals that wanted to send me away for the weekend so they could rob my house, knowing it was empty? Turned out there was no catch. I had grown my Twitter following to be in the top 10% of social media users worldwide. They delivered the car Friday afternoon – sending me off for an awesome weekend.
How I did it? Download my free social media resource guide and I’ll let you in on the 5 (free / dirt cheap) tools i use to manage all my social media (including free shareable images). I’ll share exactly how I built my social media networks to get into the top 10% worldwide. When it comes to social media, it isn’t lonely at the top at all – as a matter of fact it’s a lot of fun.
