This week confirmed once again that social media advertising is probably not what you should be doing as a creative entrepreneur.

Who else watched the 2018 Apple Keynote? Parts of it was a direct attack on Facebook and how people perceive their behaviour. While every entrepreneur out there thinks they should be doing more with Facebook ads, the recipients (aka your potential customers) see all the tracking and ads as creepy and undesired. Interesting disconnect, that proves once again that everything popular is wrong.

As a business owner you have to ask the question if you want your business to be associated with those feelings. You owe it to yourself, and your customers. I sure don’t – which is why the social media approach I teach in my classes has always been significantly different.

Curious about my unconventional approach to social media? After watching the keynote, I thought “FINALLY!” Well done Apple.

Unapologetic

Never stop promoting something you poured your heart and soul into.

I may be annoying sometimes as I post a lot about the things I’m passionate about. My approach may be unconventional, but it works. I’m not apologetic about having a passion for the work I do. (Sorry.) Even if you have a steady job today, how long does your job security last beyond the next two weeks? As Chris Guillebeau says, everyone should have a side hustle – not as a backup plan, “just in case”, but as a vehicle to channel your energy by working on something you believe in. Once you do, never stop promoting something you poured your heart and soul into. It’s something you created and should be proud of. If your friends think it’s too much, and don’t support you, why are they your friends? Sooner or later they’ll figure it out for themselves, but until they do you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.
