The Average Person Gets Little To No Results

Someone (not naming any names) pitched me and tried selling me a social media marketing program today. If you know me a little, I don’t like being pitched straight away by randoms adding me on LinkedIn. I like connecting with others and being of value to one another, especially online. That’s what the new networking is all about, in my humble opinion.

Overnight Results?

Again, I know better but to name any names. It’s not about that. But just out of curiosity, after reading his cleverly written sales page promising me the golden-mountain-of-overnight-business-success, here’s what I found in tiny fine print at the bottom:

Please understand my results are not typical, I’m not implying you’ll duplicate them (or do anything for that matter). I have the benefit of practicing online marketing for 7+ years, and have an established following as a result. The average person who buys any online marketing information gets little to no results. I’m using these references for example purposes only. Your results will vary and depend on many factors … including but not limited to your background, experience, and work ethic. All business entails risk as well as massive and consistent effort and action. If you’re not willing to accept that, please DO NOT attempt to work with us.

While he certainly has a point, the line “The average person who buys any online marketing information gets little to no results.” rubbed me the wrong way. If you teach someone, shouldn’t you have a system that gives results when implemented? This guy seems to bank more so on your luck than his experience of being able to transfer any knowledge to his client. Disappointing. Then again, anyone promising overnight results is probably someone you should stay away from in the first place (without even bothering reading any fine print). Just saying.
