When people ask me what business I’m in, I often say, “I’m in the learning business.” It sounds intriguing, and it is definitely true. But, in one way, we are all in the learning business.

Because as humans, we are learning machines. We are most alive when we are learning. We’re functioning closest to our true potential when we’re adapting to something new. Everything we want out of life is outside of our comfort zone. It’s about finding new ways, approaches and techniques to improve our lives (or the lives of others).

I know this to be true. But it’s a bit philosophical. So let me get much more practical.

Change is all around us. Some say the rate of change is increasing. Change is definitely a fact of our daily business lives. Products change, customers change, process and policies change. I often tell my authors: we’re living in a different world today. We get on a new team, we enter new markets, and we develop new goals.
