Back to School: Commit to Lifelong Learning
Lifestyle August 20, 2017 Wilko van de Kamp

This post is an example of the content I share every Friday in my Living by Experience Magazine. If you’d like your free copy, just click here.
When people ask me what business I’m in, I often say, “I’m in the learning business.” It sounds intriguing, and it is definitely true. But, in one way, we are all in the learning business.
Because as humans, we are learning machines. We are most alive when we are learning. We’re functioning closest to our true potential when we’re adapting to something new. Everything we want out of life is outside of our comfort zone. It’s about finding new ways, approaches and techniques to improve our lives (or the lives of others).
I know this to be true. But it’s a bit philosophical. So let me get much more practical.
Change is all around us. Some say the rate of change is increasing. Change is definitely a fact of our daily business lives. Products change, customers change, process and policies change. I often tell my authors: we’re living in a different world today. We get on a new team, we enter new markets, and we develop new goals. In all parts of our daily professional lives – change surrounds us.
In order for us to cope with that change, we need to be willing and able to change. Have an open mind. Learning is a key component in developing that ability.
You might have heard about continuous learning or life long learning. I’m not suggesting everyone needs to enrol at their local college, or go back to school for a new degree. Continuous learning is an attitude. It’s a set of behaviours that allow us to succeed in our ever-changing environment. Learning is the best lever we have to turn who we are today into who we want to be tomorrow. Change requires learning, and there is no learning without change.
What skills are you looking to add to your professional toolbox? What’s that one goal you’ve set for your business or career that you haven’t pursued yet? I’m excited about sharing some of the (mostly complimentary) resources I’ve put together. They’re all based on my real life experiences. Most of them are free, for others the links below will point you to an exclusive, time limited promotion. In each resource, I share what has worked for me, and what didn’t. You’re welcome to explore one, or all of them – and use my experiences to your advantage.
