6 reasons to not give up on your writing dream

The thought that I’m insane and should pursue a career that doesn’t stomp on my pride or demolish my ego has crossed my mind a few times since giving up on the comforts of full-time corporate employment. As a writer you have hopes of fame and fortune to comfort you at times, but every once in a while doubt gnaws at your mind.
As a writer discouragement is a constant companion. You face rejections. My friend and mentor Jack Canfield had to go through 144 (!) rejections before he found a publishing home for Chicken Soup for the Soul. While writing your manuscript you spend time, money and energy with no guarantee of financial gain (and even after you’re published, you still face rejections and spend time, money and energy with no guarantee of financial gain). You endure looks of healthy disdain from people when you reveal you’re a writer.
If rejections make you want to bang your head against the wall, writing is painful and the thought of another damn story or topic swimming in your head …
