Why I Voluntarily Opted To Spend The Night At The Airport

Have you ever booked a flight early in the morning? I do this all the time. When I get to my destination, I have at least some of the day left to get settled in and explore. And, I get a bonus vacation day added to my trip for no extra charge. A few months ago, on my last trip to Las Vegas, I realized the night before I would have to be at the airport way too early due to additional security screening for US bound flights. That meant I’d have to get out of bed and leave my home at an even more unspeakable hour. No thanks.

Instead, I opted to spend the night at the airport. Calgary Airport has added a new terminal, part of which is a brand-new in-terminal hotel on the land side (before security). My early morning departure was a perfect excuse to give it a try. And get in at least an hour of extra sleep. It added a little extra travel expense, but being able to just roll out of bed and straight into the security line-up in the morning was well worth it. As I’ve said before, my way of tr…
