Why I always choose to fly direct
After my recent disaster flight with United (read the post about it here) I was reminded of one of my most important travel principles: which is to always (always) fly direct. It’s not always possible, so if the itinerary requires it I’ll make a stopover somewhere if necessary, but for most cases I’ve made it one of my golden rules to always fly direct whenever possible.
While flying direct is in most cases a more expensive option than going for one, or even multiple stopovers in different airports, it’s always the fastest way to get to my destination. Although I like drinking coffee at 30,000 feet, I’d like to avoid the additional hassle and stress by adding unnecessary airports and stopovers to the mix. Not even to mention the risk of missing connections, or my luggage getting lost somewhere along the way. The slightly higher cost of flying direct mitigates most of those risks, and more importantly it buys me at least a few extra hours on the beach, or more time to explore a new and different country, city and culture.
