Setting Goals Helps You Remember You’ll Never Make It
If you’ve read my Happiness book, you’ll know I’m a big believer in setting goals and priorities. They’re a great way to make dreams become a reality. But the world isn’t flat. Once you made it all the way to the “horizon” – the realization of your dream – it’s not the end of the world. There’s more beyond the horizon. You’re never “there”, you’ve never “made it”.
As a photographic artist, I remember selling my first picture. It was a moment of significance, a small victory to be celebrated and remembered. It was at an outdoor market, simply under a white canopy. It had taken me weeks of preparation to get ready for that event. I had bought and rented everything I needed to put together my little shop for that day, under the white canopy. It was a lot of work, and I remember thinking that having a physical store or gallery somewhere down the road would be a nice achievement. I would have definitely “made it” once that dream would become a reality.
