How To Choose A Travel Destination That Is Achievable On Points/Miles?
Travel September 9, 2020 Wilko van de Kamp

At age twenty-six I decided to relocate to Canada, after which my picture of the world drastically changed. I’ve learned North Americans tend to visit the Mediterranean for a special occasion, or maybe they don’t even visit it at all until after retirement. From this side of the Atlantic Ocean, Europe is considered to be the exclusive destination. Sometimes people even like to brag about the fact they have visited “Europe”. My reply is always “that’s where I’m from”, which makes the bragging less interesting, at least to me. It’s just another place to go, nothing more, nothing less. And I’ve seen most places in Europe, but nowhere near all of it. Now that I’m based in North America, Mexico seems to be the cheaper sun destination where students go to drink their face off. In a way that’s what I did in Spain. It seems Mexico is my new Spain and has therefore lost some of its allure.
Just Another Place To Go
What a different viewpoint. Moving to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean literally turned my world perspective upside down. One of the things I took from this eye opener is that every destination I perceive to be “exclusive” or “exotic” in my mind is “just another place to go” depending on which viewpoint I choose to take. The world is a huge place, but no matter where I decide to go next, it’s only a plane ride (or two) away. Once I get to my destination I can live and be there as cheap or as expensive as I want. Personally, I’m now on track to set foot on every continent within the next few years. It’s all just another place to go.
