My first book started simply because people asked me one question in the travel shows and fine art photography shows I participated:

How do you manage to travel all the time?

In this video I explain why that all too common question inspired me to write down my thoughts on organizing my travel – which eventually led to a published (bestselling) book on travel hacking:

An Appetizer Of Freedom

For me travel is an appetizer of freedom. I realized that when I’m traveling I feel really free. I feel different from who I am at home. I decided to share my thoughts on the topic of travel. Initially this was nothing more but a bunch of emails that wrote to friends. I wrote down my thoughts on why I love travel – but also how I go about organizing my travel, how I go about booking airfare, securing free airfare and how I get upgraded in hotels. All this travel “stuff” happens to me all the time. It’s been awhile since I actually stayed in the hotel room that I booked. Usually by the time I get to the property I booked, they give me a really nice upgraded room.

My Vision: #justfly

Once my book came out, it became my vision to inspire people to just fly, and go see the world. I’ve met so many people in art events and our galleries who say something like, “I’ve always really wanted to visit Paris”, or “I’ve always really wanted to go to South America”. It broke my heart. My response always was, “so why don’t you?”. I know that it’s not always that easy. There’s a lot of things that hold us back: there’s jobs, mortgages, families; a whole bunch of things that keep us from going after that passion for travel.

A Story Of Freedom

When I first started traveling I didn’t realize that being on the road made me feel really free. I wanted to find a way to take that home with me. I wanted to become my traveling self at home. Writing down some of these thoughts eventually led to my first book being published. Within eight months after its publication my travel hacking book became the number one bestseller on Amazon for travel books. Which, needless to say, made me extremely happy. Sure, I made a little bit of money off that book – but what it was all about was to inspire people to just fly. The fact that from all these books that are published every day my travel book ended up on the number one spot, meant that I was able to inspire people to go travel. I was able to inspire people to just fly and give them the tools that they needed to see the world and go visit those places that they’ve always wanted to see.

What’s your place, the one you’ve always wanted to visit, but never did? Let’s get you there.
