Is Travel Hacking Worth It?
Travel June 11, 2021 Wilko van de Kamp

This post is an example of the content I share every Friday in my Living by Experience Magazine. If you’d like your free copy, just click here.
Some of the best things in life aren’t goals to be achieved, but experiences to be enjoyed: happiness, freedom, joy, mindfulness… In short: this moment, now. All of those experiences come together in an elevated form through travel, when I’m away from everything familiar. That’s why travel is one of the central themes of my “living by experience” blog (and motto). That’s also why not being able to travel during the Covid19 pandemic turned out to be particularly hard. But that didn’t mean I stopped applying my travel hacking principles. Quite the contrary. All through 2020 we continued working these principles so that when we can travel again, we’ll be beyond ready to go.
Living vicariously through photography
Meanwhile, to keep myself entertained and inspired, I followed many fellow travellers on Instagram. Many travellers have shared their favourite travel memories over the past 15 months. But now, it’s time to start making some travel plans again. It’s time to enjoy the fun side of travel hacking again, and start using some of those rewards and benefits. It’s time to shift our focus from living vicariously through travel photography to figuring out what’s possible as we learn to travel again.
But there were several less exciting posts on my timeline as well. I’m not naming any names, but it seems to me that some “travel hackers” are mostly busy posting advertisements for their airline partners. They’re mostly posting pictures of shiny new cabin interior designs, or (worse) pictures of themselves eating a business class meal. Often the airlines featured are not even the ones I’d recommend anyone to be flying due to their relentless overbooking and poor customer service. That’s definitely not the kind of travel hacking I’m all about… so let’s set the record straight.
Real travel hacking
If you want to learn some real travel hacking and upgrade your travel experiences (not theirs or mine) – why not start with a copy of my travel hacking book, or, I you really want to dive in, a 100% free preview of my Travel Revolution program? I’m happy to share my secrets and best practice approach to travel hacking with you beyond what I can include in this post.
Don’t let anyone tell you that travel hacking is only for frequent flyers or big spenders. What matters is having a system and following it consistently. Even while we still can’t travel all that far right now with the Canadian border remaining closed, we will travel again.
Traveling more 6-12 months from now starts today. Do you want to have more and better travel experiences next time you go somewhere? Learn my legit, proven travel hacking system to book free airfare, get hotel room upgrades and much more.
My bestselling travel hacking book shares my best practice approach to maximizing your travel experiences overall. In the Travel Revolution we go into way more detail so you can follow along and create your own experience as you work through the program. I show step-by-step how to do the following (and more):
Free Long / Short Haul Airfare
Value: $500-$1500+ value (per ticket)
The biggest hurdle in traveling is to actually get to the destination. Once you get to where you want to go, you can decide to stay on a budget or live large and spend half your life savings. The key is getting to where you want to be. It’s actually possible to get on board of a plane and pay nothing or next to nothing for the ticket. The core of travel hacking is knowing how to access free and deeply discounted airfare all the time. I show you how I earn the free flights and how I book them to get as many flights as possible, continuously. Before Covid, I’ve flown all over North America, but also to South America, Europe, Asia, you name it. Often in business class.
Throughout 2020, I’ve continually put my travel hacking principles to work. I may have not been able to travel, but I have collected more points and vouchers than I’ll need for years to come. That’s not meant to impress you, but to impress upon you that you can do the same, if you wish.
Hotel Elite Status
Value: $1000+ value (per trip)
Ever realized that hotels make money by selling the same room at multiple price levels to different people? Read that again, and you’ll realize the travel industry has been using their profit maximization schemes against us travelers for years. And they’ll continue to do that. I don’t mind… I get free trips, room upgrades, discounted rates and executive benefits no matter where I travel. This includes executive lounge access when I fly and high-roller “Diamond” status in many Las Vegas hotels. Now you know hotels make money by selling the same room at multiple price levels to different people – it’s time to turn the tables. If you know the room is sold at varying price levels, why not get the one that’s well below average. AND – why not leverage elite membership levels to get UPGRADED to the best room of the house on check-in, even if you booked a “normal” room.
There’s more…
There are more bonus value and exclusive benefits waiting for you inside the program. I can’t share all the travel secrets publicly on my blog. Jump inside the program to see all the other benefits. This advanced course goes well beyond using rewards points for free flights. The best part is that you can get started with a complimentary preview of the Travel Revolution today. What are you waiting for?
