As a travel hacker, I’ve had the opportunity to try out a variety of credit cards and loyalty programs over the years. However, there are three premium American Express cards that have become a staple in my wallet due to their impressive travel benefits and rewards. Here’s a breakdown of the Amex Aeroplan, Amex Business Platinum, and Amex Gold, and how they can enhance your travel experience.
Please note card benefits can change by country and may vary from time to time, so double-check using the links provided to ensure these offers are still accurate.
Amex Aeroplan
The Amex Aeroplan card is a great option for frequent flyers who want to earn rewards for their travels. With this card, you’ll earn 2 points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases with Air Canada and 1.5 points for every dollar spent on other eligible purchases. You can redeem your points for flights, hotels, car rentals, and more, making it a versatile card for all your travel needs.
In addition to earning points, the Amex Aeroplan card comes with a range of travel benefits. For example, you’ll receive priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling when flying with Air Canada. You’ll also get access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and priority pass lounges worldwide. And, if your flight is delayed or cancelled, you’ll be eligible for up to $1,000 in coverage for necessary expenses.
Amex Business Platinum
If you frequently travel for business, the Amex Business Platinum card could be the perfect fit for you. This card offers a variety of perks that can make your travels smoother and more enjoyable. For starters, you’ll earn 5 points for every dollar spent on flights and prepaid hotels booked through amextravel.com, as well as 1.5 points for every dollar spent on purchases over $5,000 (up to 1 million additional points per year).
Other benefits of the Amex Business Platinum card include access to airport lounges worldwide, a statement credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, and a $200 annual airline fee credit. Plus, you’ll get 35% of your points back when you use them to book flights through amextravel.com, which can help stretch your rewards even further.
Amex Gold
The Amex Gold card is another great option for frequent travellers who want to earn rewards on their purchases. With this card, you’ll earn 4 points for every dollar spent at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 per year), 4 points for every dollar spent at restaurants worldwide, and 3 points for every dollar spent on flights booked directly with airlines or through amextravel.com.
In addition to earning points, the Amex Gold card comes with a variety of travel benefits. For example, you’ll get up to $100 in airline fee credits each year, which can be used to cover baggage fees, in-flight purchases, and more. You’ll also receive a $120 dining credit each year, which can be used at participating restaurants such as Grubhub, Seamless, and The Cheesecake Factory.
Before you head to the airport…
While each of these American Express cards has its own unique benefits, they all offer rewards and perks that can make travelling more enjoyable. Whether you’re looking to earn points for future trips or want access to exclusive airport lounges, there’s an Amex card that can meet your needs. Consider your travel habits and preferences, and choose the card that’s right for you.
