Don’t overspend on travel if you can’t afford it. In terms of spending money, my rule of thumb is that if you can’t afford to buy something twice, you can’t afford it. That goes for travel, as well as pretty much anything else money can buy. Following that rule, being issued a travel voucher due to Covid19 travel restrictions is less painful than when you put your entire life savings on the line for that trip to Bora Bora you were never able to take.

Did you read my article on airline refunds? I asked the unpopular question if some people overspent on their travel to begin with. Instead of blaming the airlines, Covid19, the economy, or all of the above, it allows us to take responsibility and do something different. It allows us to look at our options instead, and start planning for future travel.
