If you are interested in adding some “off the beaten path” destinations to your travel itinerary, don’t miss the opportunity to explore South America. You will have the chance to discover remarkable cultures, with traditions quite different from what we’re used to in the Western world. You’ll experience the temperamental but also very welcoming Latin spirit – and hopefully bring some of it home.

You’ll have to venture a bit further than Mexico, which technically is still North America. In the past few years I’ve visited Argentina, Colombia, Panama – as well as several countries in Central America (and of course Mexico). Contrary to popular belief, safety isn’t necessarily an issue when visiting South America, as long as you bring a dose of common sense. In my travel book The Freedom Project I share a lot of tips about traveling safe – and what I did (and did not) do when I explored South America solo. Countries like Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and Panama have a very well-developed potential for tourism, without being consumed by mass-tourism.

If you decide to travel to Brazil, you will be amazed by the staggering beauty of this great South American country. Among the most popular destinations are its capital, Brasilia, and major cities such as Sao Paulo, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro. Famous for its carnivals, natural resorts, tropical climate and the exuberance of the locals, Brazil is an amazing destination. Thanks to modern infrastructure and the variety of airports present here, flights to and within Brazil are a quick and comfortable way of traveling to this intriguing region of South America.

Art PrintsSimilar to Brazil, Argentina is also a must-see destination South America. The most popular Argentina travel destinations are its capital – Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata – the main tourist resort situated on the Atlantic Coast, La Plata, Santa Fe, Santa Cruz, Cordoba, Mendoza and San Juan. Combining the Latin mentality with European cultural influences, Argentina is a welcoming country for anyone who wishes to discover new interesting locations.

Don’t miss my travel gallery dedicated to photography from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
