Don’t Just Follow Me – I Want To Hear From You
Entrepreneur November 25, 2021 Wilko van de Kamp

This post is an example of the content I share every Friday in my Living by Experience Magazine. If you’d like your free copy, just click here.
The worst type of email unsubscribes are “friends” that were apparently lurking at your content and then just left without ever saying anything. I hear the same complaint from business owners all the time. The lack of support on social media is overwhelming. Part of this is due to the social media algorithms censoring what we see and filtering anything out that’s not polarizing enough. On the other hand, as a society we’ve also become more and more passive about the things that matter most.
If you follow people physically, in real life, without talking to them it’s creepy and stalker-ish. So why do we do this online? Why do you follow anyone on social media without ever saying “hello”?
End of rant. Instead, cheers to those who do respond, take action, and stay connected.
Be less passive about who matters most
Let’s reverse that trend of passiveness. You can support the business of someone you know, even without buying from them. Without sales every business will eventually disappear, but that doesn’t mean you have to max out your credit cards by buying out the inventory of everyone you’re remotely connected to. But you can make a difference: like their posts, comment, or even share what they have to say. Create a strong signal online to get the word out about who matters most to you.
And to my fellow entrepreneurs: The people that didn’t support you when you first started will later be telling their friends about when they first met you… stick with it and don’t give up. Everyone says being an entrepreneur is a lonely journey – but I find the opposite can be true as well. Feel free to connect with me and text me. Build a network of active followers and raving fans that supports you just as hard as you work!
