Are you feeling tired all the time? A lot of people are feeling exhausted. Maybe not even sad or depressed, but just really tired. According to a recent study, nearly 90% of workers said they’d experienced burnout over the past year. And then there’s the Covid19 mental health aftermath.
By being too caught up in either the past or the future and by worrying too much, our egos dominate and steer us away from the true happiness and fulfillment of the present moment. It’s easy to blame the Covid19 pandemic for everything that’s wrong in our lives right now. That doesn’t mean life has to be not-but-bad right now. Even there may continue to be restrictions for some time to come, focus on what you can do as much as possible.
Time to do something different?
Those who are the strongest proponents of a strict work life balance usually tend to be unhappy with their life, their work, or both. I’m not suggesting traditional employment is the issue. We’re led to believe that being an entrepreneur is the “end-all-be-all” for everyone, but it’s far from the truth. The grass isn’t really greener on the other side. In my Happiness book I explore both and discovered that depression and burnout exist on either side of the entrepreneurial fence.
They start the news by saying “good evening” – and then explain why it’s not. CNN stands for “Constantly Negative News”. This is nothing new, but during the pandemic the negativity from the news just hit home a little more for all of us:
99 or maybe even 100% of us have now experienced some form of trauma, some form of loss. Most people are one family member removed from someone with a mental issue of some sorts. It’s no longer us and them but just us.
Ready to opt out of the draining and useless things in your life, and instead focus more of your time on what really matters? Filling the void with anxiety doesn’t help, but happens automatically if you let it sneak in. Fill your time with something that matters to you, add something new. Watch less TV, especially the news, and join more online courses, for example.
The good news is that it is possible to break this tiredness-cycle. If you’re worried anything physical may be going on, don’t hesitate to see your family doctor. Physical tiredness can get better from rest, psychological tiredness works the other way: it gets better from taking action. Doing something new, and adding more excitement – even if you don’t feel like it. You don’t (yet) need to feel good to get going, we need to get going to give ourselves a shot at feeling good.
So what is it that you really want? Maybe you simply want to discover more happiness, love and freedom in your life… or maybe you are looking to work on a specific area of your life to uncover your potential, take the next step, and work towards achieving your most important goals.
